Water tank line up

Hello all. Im looking for information for water tank valve in for my 1993 Catalina 36. Should you have all three tanks valved open or just one at a time? It seems the bow tank is a little higher and would empty first then the 2  tanks in the aft cabin. How do you line up your tanks. Keith

I open each separately, then close the valve of the empty tank before opening the next one. This will make sure you know how much water you have left.

I also do it one at a time.  I do it to be sure of the amount of water on board even though I do have tank level monitors. Another reason is that if you get some funky water, hopefully it is isolated to the tank in use and you know what you need to investigate. Finally, if all tanks are on and a line after the water pump leaks you could find yourself with no water ...

I like to have back-up that I can 'guesstimate' the volume of, so I have added a panel for the shut-off valved inside the narrow cupboard on the starboard side of the sink facing the stern.  We use the main central tank until the water pump runs continually, indicating the tank is empty, then I close that one and open the port side tank which is smaller, then I know we're running low as we don't have a forward tank.
