<DIV>Tom,</DIV>
<DIV>I think what you are saying is that zero , or a small negative number is a
good indicator. I think I have finally got it right.</DIV>
<DIV>Thanks</DIV>

<DIV><BR></DIV><WBR>Bill,<BR>1. Yes. Both negative leads from the
batteries should come together at one end of the shunt, and then the other end
of the shunt should go to the engine ground. <BR>2. From memory (I hope
I'm not confusing my Xantrex XBM monitor with your Link 10?!), the
AH function actually counts UP to zero as the batteries are being
charged. IOW, if everything was set up properly and you start with fully
charged batteries, and you have used 100 AH, the link would show
-100. If your charger/alternator put 75AH back into the batteries, the
link would show -25. Being on a mooring you may never see it, but when
the link reaches 0, and the charger is still on, the link actually counts UP
into positive numbers for a while. As soon as the charger is turned off,
and a load is applied to the batteries, a positive number on the link will
instantly go to 0, and then go to -1, -2, etc. You should never see
440 on the link. You might see -300 (not good!), or +25 (seldom, but
possible), but to see -440 means that every single amp has been drained out of
the batteries. The reason the instructions tell you to f ully charge the
batteries first is to have a starting point for the shunt/link to keep track
of the AH. I suppose in theory you could start with a battery that is
half dead, hook up the link, and from that point forward the link would think
that the half-dead state of charge is "full". Not what you want.
Hope this helps.<BR><BR>Tom Soko<BR>Julandra #659<BR><BR><BR>-----Original

<DIV>I have almost got it functioning.A few more questions:</DIV>
<DIV>1)Since I have switched to GC I assume that in addition to having
them wired in series I must also have them in parallel for the link 10 to
monitor them as 1 bank?</DIV>
<DIV>2) I have changed the factory default settings for Ah from 200 to 440.
However from what I gather from the manual, I must charge the
batteries until the far right LED starts flashing. Will the Ah function go
up to 440Ah and then go up and down as Ah are used and replenished.</DIV>
<DIV>Must the shunt sense the Ah going in before I will get the 440 Ah
reading.</DIV>
<DIV>Some day I hope to understand this electrical
stuff !!</DIV>
<DIV>Thank you,</DIV>
