The C36s were out in force taking advantage of the uncommonly warm weather. Here are <I>Endless Summer</I> and <I>Spirit Wind</I> anchored off a large reef at Penrose State Park in southern Puget Sound (about 40 miles south of Seattle).<BR>

You are a little harsh describing Narragansett Bay. Those of us that live very close to it and sail it frequently love it. Also,coming out of the East passage, Newport, you can give the Point a wide berth whether heading for Block or down to the CT coast.<BR>
I've suggested to Bill M. that from Wickford, with his fear of the Point, he could go up the east Passage, passing Newport, and then set a course for the Block. if he did so he would be well off the Point.<BR>

You are right. We hugged the shore, and the wind was NNE. A little rolly in Nastygansette Bay, but once we got around your favorite place, Pt Judith, we flew.<BR>

My buddy left from Noank on Fri AM, and he had the same conditions, fog and an uneasy swell which made both his daughters sick. I was able to come to the rescue and get HUGE brownie points with the daughters.<BR>

Coming down the RI coast if the wind off the land and it is blowing stink you just reef down and stay close and you go like Holly H___. My son told me about a ride with a power boat friend doing the same trip. His friend almost sold his power boat. He did 8 knots all the way down the coast. With the wind off the land and in close you have smooth water and you fly. Wind must have been out of the North West to North East.<BR>

I agree that the weather has been awful in NE, but the sailing has not been all bad. Yesterday I helped a friend bring his boat (CS36) back from Newport, RI to Noank, CT, a distance of about 35 NM. There were a total of 3 other boats we saw on the whole trip. Granted, the forecast was for rain/showers all day long, and gale warnings were posted, but we had one of the best sails ever. Wind was 20-35 at 90-120 degrees apparent. Our boat speed was never below 7, and most of the time was 8-8.5. Yahoo!!!! I'm still grinning. <BR>
