<div>
<p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"MS Sans Serif","serif"'>While
changing the zinc in my M35B's heat exchanger during my spring servicing, it
was clear that the old zinc had broken off and was inside the raw water water
chamber. So I removed the heat exchanger to get it out. If you ever
have to do this, you'll find that without some creativity, it's almost
impossible to get the heat exchanger remounted. the problem is that the
two mounting hoops that attach the tank to the aft end of the block are very
strong springs, and the mounting bolts are not long enough to go through the
holes on the ends of the hoops unless the sprung hoops are compressed.
Two hands aren't enough to do this, and there isn't room for two people back
there. Here's how I solved the problem:<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<div>
<p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"MS Sans Serif","serif"'> <o:p></o:p></span></p>
</div>
<div>
<p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"MS Sans Serif","serif"'>Before
putting the heat exchanger in place, use vice grips to compress the hoops as
much as possible while still allowing them freedom to slide around on the
tank. While compressed with the vice grips, put a wire tie around the
bolt hole flanges on the ends of each hoop, so you can remove the vice grips
and the hoops stay compressed. Then put the heat exchanger in place,
position the hoops properly and engage the first few threads of each
bolt. Then you can snip off the wire ties and finish tightening the
bolts. Voila!!<o:p></o:p></span></p>
