[C36IA] Masthead Sheaves

Did you replace the main halyard sheave to ease hoisting? I've considered doing the same to lessen the extensive effort it takes to get our main up and flying. Did the ball bearing alternative make an appreciable difference?

Subject: [C36IA] Masthead Sheaves


 After four seasons, I unstepped the spar in the fall of 2008.  Since the spar was down, I replaced the masthead sheaves with nice ball bearing sheaves from Garhauer.  I discovered that the original sheaves, again, used for four seasons, were in excellent condition.  They are 2 1/8 x 1/2 plastic sheaves and they have a brass bushing lining the bearing hole.  I don't really have any use for them, so if anyone wants them, I'll sell them as a set for $8.00 plus whatever it costs me to ship them to you.   First come first serve. 
BTW, the new aluminum Garhauer sheaves are just a tad thicker than the original sheaves.  One pair fit fine.  The other pair required that I mill down the plastic spacer that goes between them.  A few passes with my orbital sander with 80 grit, then some polishing with 200 grit did the trick.
