[C36IA] New Batteries

I thought your son had all the technical answers. ;-)

Seriously, though, unless you want to store your batteries in an
entirely different location, the two main choices are 4D vs. 6 volt golf
cart. Since almost any size or type battery you would consider would
start our boats, forget cranking amp ratings or even mixed marine types
and only go for full deep cycle ratings. They will have more usable
amps over a period of time and last for many more discharge cycles.

My opinion on gell cells is that they are wonderful inventions that can
work upside down, in odd locations and can take lots of abuse. For me,
the slight occasional attention wet cells need is no problem, so the
huge price difference for gells is not worth while.

I chose the golf cart batteries for me, but since you have strong young
Sherpas to help you change them every 5 to 7 years, 4D would be OK.
GC's are a little better, but do require some slight modifications of
the boat. But then, you don't seem adverse to modifying the boat.
