[C36IA] prop pitch and engine problem

My father-in-law (a former diesel mechanic) tells me it just almost
can't be a compression issue since the engine only has 160 hours. He
says no black smoke means no air problem. His best guess is fuel if
it's not the pitch.
Further thoughts/ideas?
