M25XP Engine Bracket (broken)

Westerbeke/Universal Service Bulletin #214
May 17, 1994

Random reports have been received from the field concerning the faiure of the front engine mount brackets used only on the Catalina specificaiton for the Univesal engine models M25XP(C) and M35(C).

The mounting brackets have been fracturing across the bracket just forward of where the lower support gusset for the bracket terminates. Bracket failures are believed to be the result of metal fatigue brought on by improper welding of the lower support gusset and work hardening of the bracket metal from vibration and engine movement.

Inspect brakcets for indications of cracks or possible breakage and replace. Brackets having lower support gussets only two inches long are suspect.

For replacement brackets contact Westerbeke Corporation at 508-823-7677 and ask for Jor Joyce, Service Manager. When contacting the factory for replacement brackets, please have engine's model and seriel numbers available.

Current brackets have had the lower support gusset lengthened 1-1/2 inches for a total length of 3-1/2 inches. This give full support to the bracket top plate that the adjusting bolt for the engine mount isolator attaches to. This lengthened support gusset will stop any movement at the top plate and prevent any possible fracture of the top plate from occuring.
