Default Standing rigging maintenance

What's the general consensus for replacing the standing rigging? I've read 5 years, 10 years; I'd think that other factors like salt vs. fresh water, actual time under sail, usual wind strength, etc., would factor into the equation.

I inspect the lower components every year, but plan to have a rigger inspect the rig this spring. If practical, I'd like to replace in stages, eg., shrouds this year, stays next year, to spread the pain. I'm also considering Norseman fittings vs. swages as they seem less prone to cracking/crevice corrosion.

I'd probably want to replace tangs at the same time?

Any experiences will be appreciated. I managed to break the forestay (halyard wrap) in a sudden and severe squall a few years ago; I'd not like to lose the rig over the side.

Gary, if my memory serves me right, there was quite a series of threads on this very subject. You might want to check that.

I did a search on 'standing rigging' and the threads I saw weren't what I was asking, so I posted a new one. Maybe I'll try again.
