Stern Line Stowage

Dave Elmore posted a super photo of their Tranquility anchored in Desolation Sound with a stern tie to shore. See it on the home page, or in the 2010 photo archive. I noted a reel of polypro (?) line on the transom, and I am wondering how that set-up is rigged. Looks like a PVC mount of some sort to hold the large reel??? Dave, any photos to share?

It would be a good thing to get the large amunt of stern line out of the boat and onto the transom or swim platform for Pacific Northwest cruising. Does anyone have other ideas on how to stow and deploy this line. I have 200 feet of polypro that I keep in a double loop in the bottom of the portside lazarette. I seldom have a need for it, but on the west coast when we need it we need it.

The PO of my boat installed a standard garden hose reel on the rear rail and filled it with 1/2" nylon anchor line. I don't know exactly how many feet are on the reel, but I have done used it for shore tying many times and never been short. The reel mounted to a piece of plywood fastened to the rails with electrical conduit clamps. It was kind of ugly but effective.

I have been considering getting some 1" polyester cargo webbing to mount on a reel on the stern. It has a breaking strength in the neighborhood of 5000# and is available on line from various sources in 300 ft rolls for less than $100. I think a reel of this could be considerably more compact than rope of an equivalent strength. In addition, the strap could also be used as jack straps. jI was wondering if anyone has tried something like this.

Their is a product designed just like this. I believe it is Scandinavian. I think it is called Ankarolina.

I did a google search and found the Ancharolina. Also found a similar unit called Quickline.

They both look like neat units that would be relatively easy to mount and use.

I missed this post just found it, sorry it took so long.
I purchased this line from Tacoma Screw products (Fisheries has it also), it came on a plastic spool so it won't rot or rust. The spool contains 600' of 3/8" MFP float line made by Samson. It is the yellow line with the red tracer in it.
I used 1" PVC and six 90s to make hooks on the ends to hang over the stern rails at the gate. The ends are finished with 1" end caps, and on one end the first elbow is thru bolted so that it can be broken down if needed. I have the wife hang this across the boarding gate in the stern pulpit as I get in the dingy. Then it can spool out as I row the end to shore. 600 ft allows me to bring the end back to the boat for easy retrieval with out going ashore. When at anchor to get it out of the way, I hang it over the stern from the pulpit. As this was built for my cat 30 I need to increase the length of the pipe for the wider gate. Also it stores easily on end in the aft stern lockers and the pipe gives me something to grab to pull it out with.
