Hi Everyone,
I am new here but have used this vbulletin Forum engine for years. In addition to Sailing I am an avid Watch collector and in the watch world it’s all about taking macro pictures and sharing on the discussion boards.

So I have noticed people asking questions about posting photos. It is really easy if you know how to use the tools here.
Before you can post an image on C36 Forum, you must transfer it to a server. Most people use either free webspace provided by their ISP, or free commercial image hosting companies like Photobucket.com. You should follow the instructions provided by your image hosting service for uploading images to their server.
Once your image is on the host server, it will have a URL or address. An example of an image URL is:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v136/mholzmann/hawkwind.jpg?t=1269539979

So to place this image in your post you would type
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v136/mholzmann/hawkwind.jpg?t=1269539979

Above you are replacing the X’s in this line with the exact URL as above. It sounds difficult but you type, copy and paste the URL and you did it!

You can repeat this over and over for multiple pictures in the same thread you are posting.
Such as this:

The next cool thing is to look at the little buttons at the top of your box.

If you click the little button that is yellow with the mountain and sun. It will automatically open a dialog box, that once opened, you just cut and paste your photo's URL address into. So this does it automatically for you. Play with the other buttons. You can add links to other sites on your posts, as will as other things to make your posts more interesting.
You can even change your font size and color by playing with the top bar as well. So now that I have covered this lets see some pictures!
Have Fun!

Mark, thanks for the coaching. Two things:

1) What about the size of the photo? It needs to be properly sized for viewing, and if you upload a 2 mb jpeg it's going to be way too large, won't it? Would I need to Photoshop my large jpegs to the proper size before I upload to a server?

2) I hope you don't mind, but I ripped your great(!) photos and am placing them in the C36IA 2010 Photo Library.

The sizing function will/should be done automatically at the photo host site.
Once I have it there I have never had a problem. Resizing for a thumbnail is another matter I have always had to bugger around with.
Here I just stole Juniper from this forum and embedded. Cool, huh?

Yes, it is cool.

I have placed your two photos into the C36IA 2010 photo library, hopefully with correct captions. If you'd to change the caption or want to add more comment, just respond here and I'll make the change.

And Juniper, Tom Sokoloski's new C400 looks beautiful too!

Just uploaded to Photobucket and it sized and corrected automatically. Within Photobucket you can also adjust the size you want your photo displayed

Mark,

As I think more about this method of adding photos to the Forum, I remain impressed; however, there seems to be one downside...that what resides within the Forum is merely a link. The photo itself exists on another site. Now that is certainly alright for the quick-response type of discussions we engage in here on the Forum. But when it comes to important technical information that we want to be lasting, it is not a substitute for having a technical article - properly written and properly documented - in the C36IA Technical archives.

For example, when I copied your boat and family shots to the C36IA's 2010 Photo library, I did it as jpegs - not as links - so the photos will reside there permanently.

We should continue to urge that technical essays - the 'articles' - be submitted to us for JibSheet, and for our Technical - Upgrades and Maintenance libraries. A reminder to all: we are in search of technical articles and C36 sailing essays for our next issue of JibSheet. If anyone has an idea to share, let me know and I can help you get it published.

If you wish to have something permanently as a resource it does make sense to have the photo hosted permanently on the site. Other wise the photo can disappear if the photo is deleted or changed from the original host site.

What's so hard about using the "Manage Attachments" under Additional Options when posting? So simple, no links required, always here...
