View Full Version : Halyard CLeats
Does anyone know the manufacturer of the halyard cleats installed on the early MkII? It is aluminum, painted black, and has a small stainless backing plate held in place in a track on the back by a hex set screw. Ike took the backing plate and the only halyard cleats I can find are either plastic or held on by hose clamps, neither option I prefer.
Thanks,
Sid

Are you referring to the shroud cleat?

Sid,
I'm 99.9% sure that your shroud cleat was not standard from the factory. Besides the one that Allan posted a link to, there are several others.
The Aladdin looks like a match. I always called it a shroud cleat. The local chandlery couldn't find a "shroud", only "halyard". At any rate, I'll check with defender and see if I can just get the stainless backing plate. Thanks for the help.

Our 93 C-36 had one of the shroud cleats for the flag halyard when we bought her in 2006 but we took it off. We didn't like it on there because we thought it might not be good for the shroud. It left a little indention on the shroud and caused dirt and crud to build up which could also cause corrosion. Couldn't it??
What about the jib sheet or any other lines getting caught on it? Anyone have that problem?
We replaced the flag halyard on the spreader and have the line connected to the hand rail right now but I'm thinking if it's not a big deal maybe replacing the shroud cleat again.
Thanks for any info, Spanki.:)

to avoid fouling nib sheets on shroud cleats: most people put them on the upper shroud(s) where they sometimes do get in the way. A friend with a Tartan 37 (vintage variety) moved his back to his aft lowers. We did, too, works great.
