I thought I would forward my research on new 150 genoa or Sailcare. I just ordered Sailcare to proceed with the cleaning and processing of my genny. The cost is $451.25. I also approved $173 worth of repairs to the leech pockets, bolt rope, and restitch the clew, things I knew needed done.

The kicker is they wanted $646 to replace the sunbrella sunband. I said no. I will bring it to a local guy or buy a friend dinner who has a sewing machine.

I also contacted Catalina Direct's sail department and got a quote of a little over $2400 for a new 150. Interestingly, North Sail gave me a quote of $2100 and change for a new 150, they wanted $312 to sew on the sunband cover.

I used Sailcare some twelve years ago for an Erickson 32 and the sails came back fantastic. Information I am getting from frugal sailors like me, is that sailcare puts off getting a new sail by almost five years.

Hope it helps

Tom, you might want to contact Sailrite. I'll bet that they will beat all of the quotes that you have already.

Tom:

I am curious when you got your quote from North Sail. I got one from them on 11/22/09 for a main and a roller reefing 150 , I had 3 different fabrics that they quoted me from the average to top of the line, Just for the 150 head sail the prices were, $3072, $3402, $3578. I about craped my pants when I got them. I can post the quotes if interested or email to who ever, As I am going to go to Mack Sails.

Have either of you or anyone else checked out Quantum Sails www.quantumsails.com? I met with them at the Annopolis show this past Fall.

North Sails builds their sails at their local loft or will build you a sail at their loft in a foreign country. The foreign sails are less expensive, that is probably why the difference in the two estimates.

I brougt my five year old 150 cruising genny to the Ulman Sails loft in Sarasota Florida to have the UV cover replaced becasuse some of the stiching came out and I put a tear in the cover from a cotter pin on the life lines. The sail maker said it only needed restiching and a small patch on the tear. This is an honest sailmaker.

The one quote through Catalina Direct was Sailrite. I will forward the North Sails quote to whomever wants.

I would have actually expected a wider range of prices from the 3 different North packages. I'd have thought that the better fabrics would have cost much more.

Check out National Sail Supply, their prices are very competitive. (nationalsail.com)

Has anyone ever had experience with The Sail Warehouse? Their prices seem to be fairly reasonable.

Who has added extra genoa track for a 150 genoa? Even my 145 sheets too far aft for the stock tracks. Any pictures or approximate locations of where you have added genoa leads?

I have used Quantum in Annapolis for my gennaker and for a new 135% genny. The price in 2006 was $2229 for a cross-cut woven polyester sail (plus $311 for cover and $338 for a foam leech.) I think they did a great job on both sails and their price was cheaper than North. I like the people and like the service but I didn't do a lot of comparison pricing. I do recommend them, however. David Flynn is very knowledgeable.
