Another forum I am involved with has added mobile access to their site.
This is much easier to use on mobile devices (mobile phones, iPhones, iPads, blackberrys, etc).

It took me about 15 minutes to install and set it up on the site.

Might be worth a look.

Thanks for the suggestion. I will make sure our Webmaster is aware of your post and we'll see what he says.

I access this forum on my Nokia C3 cellphone (it is not 3G therefore it is slow and has a lame browser) and it works! The main site has a lot of graphics which take a long time to load on a pre 3G cell phone and it doesn't display well in the WAP browser.

Yes, I have been accessing the site on my iphone. It works well.

Following from a suggestion from a member on www.trailersailerplace.com.au (http://www.trailersailerplace.com.au/phpbb3) I installed the mobile access system on that site (I have been admin there for 5 years), and it works really well. The forums are adjusted to fit the mobile device screen, you still have access to the images, etc.

Yes, the members need to purchase an App to access the site, but at $2.99. It was well worth it.

Mobile access is a great idea! Accessing our forums using a mobile phone browser works, but definitely isn't optimal.

I installed the Tapatalk plugin on our forum server, so you can now access it on your iPhone or Android phone using their application. See the Tapatalk web site (http://www.tapatalk.com) for store links.

After downloading the app to your phone, you will need to search for our forum. Use the keyword "catalina".

Here's what it looks like on my iPhone:

I agree Larry.
Email lists work well on small groups, but as the numbers grow, you can get swamped with emails (I joined a Linux group once, and received over 20,000 messages overnight - crashed the email server at work :D).

The forum provides a great history and search facility, now all available on the mobile range of devices.
